Virgin Media has launched two new tariffs offering unfettered mobile internet data to pay as you go customers, ahead of the surge in PAYG handset sales in the run-up to Christmas.
The entry-level so-called Big Data and Texts tariff is priced £10 and gets you unlimited data and 300 texts per month, plus the £10 airtime you’ve added. Opt to pay £5 more, though, and you’ll be entitled to unlimited texts too.
Alongside these, Virgin has launched its ‘Big Talk’ tariff. This starts at £10 with unlimited calls to any landline plus 120 anytime mobile minutes. As with Big Data and Texts, add £5 and unlimited texts are yours too.
Jamie Heywood, director of mobile at the carrier, said: "Unlimited data is a must to get the most out of the amazing smartphones available today.
“People want to be connected wherever they are so we've introduced unlimited data without the ties of a contract
"Having introduced unbeatable pay-monthly tariffs earlier this year, we're now introducing incredible value pay-as-you-go tariffs too which makes Virgin Media the unbeatable choice for unlimited data, whether you're willing to sign up to a new contract or not."
The tariffs are intended to compete with similar offerings from Three and SIM-only network GiffGaff, which also provide unlimited data on PAYG plans.
Virgin claims that data consumption among PAYG customers has risen 100 per cent in the last year.
