Sony Xperia Z black official

Three has become the latest UK network to pair the Sony Xperia Z with complimentary Sony earwarmers-cum-headphones, as Sony throws the full weight of its marketing muscle behind its new flagship phone.

Under the terms of Three’s promo, the first 1,000 customers who pre-order the Xperia Z in a Three store before February 25th qualify for a free pair of Sony MDR-1R headphones – normally priced £299.

The complimentary earwear offer is also currently available with Vodafone and Phones 4u and, along with releasing fewer phones and focussing instead on hero handsets, appears to herald a fresh approach for Sony.

And while it’s hard to say how conclusively it has worked so far, we can confirm that the early signs are good.

Not only has there been resolutely positive buzz on Twitter and some of the best reviews for a Sony phone in a long time. The Xperia Z is also already sitting pretty at number four in uSwitch Tech’s Mobile Tracker, which measures searches and sales across on our site and across our network of Omio partner sites.

Teaming a water-resistant, hard-wearing exterior fashioned from the same glass fibre polyamide material used for car parts, with a five-inch Full HD 1080p Reality Display and a 13 megapixel camera, the Xperia X comes over somewhere between a tough phone and a high-end handset.

It’s also home to a quad-core Snapdragon processor and a Sony EXMOR RS sensor.
