Sony has confirmed that a string of its key Xperia devices will get an update to Google’s new Android KitKat software. The Xperia Z, Xperia Z1, Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia ZL and Xperia Tablet Z will all be receiving the newly minted OS.
However, the Japanese giant has failed to give a rollout date for KitKat, suggesting it’ll be well into 2014 before any of these phones or tablets get the software bump.
Prior to updating to KitKat, Sony has said each of these devices will be getting Android Jelly Bean next month, alongside a slew of older phones, including the Xperia SP and Xperia V.
The move is bound to disappoint users, especially as Google is about to start rolling out KitKat to Nexus 4 users and HTC has promised that its flagship One will be getting the same treatment very early next year.
Google will also likely be peeved, especially as it’s made efforts to try and ensure manufacturers make the switch early to avoid the further fragmentation of its operating system.
