Orange will offer customers signing up to an 18-month mobile phone contract free 8Mb home broadband.

A deal which includes speeds of up to 8Mb marks an improvement on the current rate of 2Mb provided to pay-monthly mobile phone contract holders by the broadband provider.

Orange is also dangling a carrot to small businesses, which are included in the offer in the form of the Broadband for Business package, with no data cap subject to a fair usage policy.

Commenting on improvements the company has made to its UK broadband network, vice president of consumer, Mike Newnham, said: "We have spent the past 12 months working hard on fixing the basics.

"As a result we've seen huge improvements in the quality of our broadband network and the service we offer, and our customers are already providing us with some extremely positive feedback."

Orange's home broadband offerings are split into categories of Starter, Select and Max, with the Starter package - which comes with a 8Gb broadband offering - now being used to lure mobile phone customers.
