A new offer has been announced by Orange, which bundles home and mobile broadband with cheaper phone calls.
Priced at £20 per month, the Orange Home & Mobile Broadband bundle offers a home broadband connection with download speeds of up to 8MB and a monthly download limit of 10GB. Orange also throws in a free wireless router and complimentary McAfee Privacy Service for the duration of the 18-month contract.
A USB dongle provides mobile broadband, with download speeds of up to 3.6MB and a monthly download limit of 3GB. Meanwhile, subscribers also benefit from inclusive evening and weekend calls to UK landlines for numbers which start with 01, 02 and 03.
Asif Aziz, director of broadband and home at Orange UK, said the package had been launched in response to the exponential growth in demand for mobile broadband and the increasing tendency for consumers to demand competitively priced bundled deals.
He said: "We believe these new offers not only complement our existing fixed and mobile broadband service range, but also provide flexible alternatives to meet the needs of today's 21st century customer - who quite rightly demands a premium service at the same time as best value for money.”
It is anticipated that rival internet service providers will follow Orange’s lead, prompting a rash of copycat deals to be launched in the run-up to Christmas. By way of comparison Vodafone is currently charging £15 simply for mobile broadband with a download cap of GB.
Orange has also announced another new offering: the Internet Everywhere 30 Days deal. This entitles users to sample the company’s mobile broadband service for a £20 per month on a rolling contract, with a 3GB download limit. They will however have to pay separately for the USB dongle, which is priced at £49.99.
The launch of the Orange Home & Mobile Broadband follows the release of statistics from Ofcom which revealed the extent to which mobile broadband has grown in the last 18 months. This was borne out by its report showing that in June alone sales of mobile dongles hit 163,000.
Earlier this month, Orange unveiled a revamped Internet Everywhere Package, which included a free Asus Eee 901 laptop. This is priced at £25 per month over 18 months and includes a free mobile USB modem stick and 100 texts from your laptop. Owners can expect download speeds of up to 1.8Mbps and a monthly download limit of 3GB.
