Huawei launches new svelte Ascend P7 smartphone

Commenting on the launch of Huawei’s new smartphone, Ascend P7, Rob Kerr, tech expert at Uswitch.com, says: “As one of the world’s slimmest 4G smartphones, the Android based Huawei Ascend P7 is set to go after the thin phone market – with its svelte 6.5mm body.

“In fact, it makes the 7.6mm iPhone 5S look positively bulky.

“There’s innovation in the P7’s front-facing 8-megapixel ‘groufie’ camera. Most front-facing cameras – such as the Samsung Galaxy S5’s – are only around 2-megapixels.

“You can’t blame Huawei for wading in on the selfie craze, but the minute politicians started to get involved, we knew it was the beginning of the end. The ‘groufie’ sounds like the last gasp of a trend that should probably die, and fast.

“Plus it’s not a hugely exciting unique selling point given that the HTC One M8 and Nokia 930 both offer 5-megapixel front-facing cameras.

“A redeeming feature is the five-inch FHD screen of the phone – with a display size that moves the company into the realms of Samsung, Sony, HTC and Nokia mobile phone markets.

“However, P7 sales in the UK could be stalled by the lack of retailers selling the phone in Britain.

“Last year’s Huawei Ascend P6 can only be found with O2, TalkTalk Mobile or with Carphone Warehouse.

“But, while this might be bad for the UK mobile-buying public, Huawei is number three in the global smartphone market, having sold 4 million P6 phones, so it has much reason to cheer.”
