Commenting on the launch of LG’s new smartphone, the G3, Rob Kerr, mobiles expert at Uswitch.com, says: “In terms of screen prowess the LG G3 trumps the Samsung Galaxy S5, HTC One (M8) and the Sony Z2 in both size and definition.

“But size isn’t everything and, fortunately, the G3 also offers the best quality mobile viewing experience around today, thanks to a screen boasting four times the screen resolution of an HD smartphone screen.

“For that reason it’s likely to be a hit with film lovers, gamers and snappers who are most appreciative of a super-sharp image.

“However, while a Quad HD screen is a headline feature, it may well be redundant because a screen’s resolution is only as good as the content you can show on it.

“LG must convince the masses that a display densely packed with pixels is a must-have feature, and that there’s enough content out there to be supported by it.

“In terms of design, the G3 appears to have grown up and got more sophisticated, although still using a plastic rear like its sibling, the G2. It seems to have followed HTC’s lead, with a metallic-looking skin casing that smacks of the One (M8).

“The G2’s uncluttered and near button less layout is replicated in the G3, where the volume, power and home screen buttons are still all controlled from the rear. Because the controls are located just where the finger naturally sits when talking on your phone, it’s a logical and unique design.

“In terms of sales, the feature-packed G2’s clever ergonomics didn’t take the world by storm, and only time will tell if the G3 can give LG a boost in sales.”
