Apple unveils iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus and Apple Watch

Commenting on the unveiling of three new Apple gadgets, Ernest Doku, tech expert at Uswitch.com comments on the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus:

“Unless you’ve been living in a cave, there were few surprises tonight. Apple is leakier than a sieve these days.

“As expected, Apple is taking the fight to Samsung, delivering a big screen experience to muscle in on the Korean manufacturer’s lucrative bite of the phablet market with the duo of iPhone 6 and 6 Plus.

“A refined camera puts the iPhone’s snapping credentials back in competition with the trigger happy Nokia Lumia 830 just launched at IFA in Berlin.

“Both new iPhones address the biggest bugbear of most consumers: battery life. Apple’s onto a poll winner. Our research shows that 89% of Brits are more likely to buy a smartphone with long battery life.

“This launch marks a notable change in tactics for Apple. These sizeable introductions nestle nicely alongside the existing 5S and 5C, which have both been slashed in price, creating an iPhone family that courts mobile fans at all screen sizes and price points. It’s a tactic which has served Samsung very well in recent years.”

On Apple Pay:

“Unless your iPhone 6’s battery is flat, Apple Pay looks like a robust digital wallet, with well-thought-out security measures against fraudsters and some huge retailers and brands on board, in the US at least.

“It could be just what the mobile payment industry needs to become less ethereal.

“Let’s hope Apple Pay works better than the tech giant’s first live event screening, which prompted some serious Twitter rage.”

On the Apple Watch:

“All eyes have been on Apple’s entry to the smart watch market, and sure enough they’ve brought their design chops and new hires to bring a truly attractive device to the table.

“A bit like Apple’s phones and tablets, the watch has an elegance and luxuriousness which has eluded the efforts of other manufacturers.

“Apple seems to have understood that, like jewellery, watches are highly personal. A choice of sizes, finishes and straps will no doubt convince people that a smart watch is worth investing in.

“However, the fact that users will also need an iPhone with their watch, and it’s therefore not a standalone gadget, was glossed over fairly rapidly.”
