Rupert Murdoch’s iPad-only newspaper The Daily could be on its way to Android tablets soon, it has been claimed.
At The Daily’s launch earlier this month, the News Corp head honcho announced plans to move to Android at some stage in the future. However, because the company had worked closely with Apple to develop the app it was thought that The Daily would remain confined to the iPad for some time yet.
Not so, it seems. According to an insider source cited by All Things D, the transition to Google’s platform is due imminently and could even happen by the spring.
News of developments comes as Apple gears up for a sustained challenge in the slate space this year, with most of the competition running Honeycomb, AKA tablet-optimised iteration of Android.
The Motorola Xoom is set to be first out the blocks and will land in the likes of Currys and Carphone Warehouse in the UK during Q2. After that, the floodgates will open and we’re due Honeycomb slates from HTC, Samsung and Sony.
