Gmail for Android gets string of new features

Google has given its Gmail for Android app a much–needed spruce-up ahead of Christmas, finally adding the chance to turn on out-of-office settings on your device.

The new feature is the highlight of a wide-ranging update, which also brings attachment support for all file types - a major omission that power users have been complaining about for some time.

KitKat users can now print off hard copies of emails direct from their Android devices too, while the app’s performance has been boosted on low-memory handsets thanks to the Big G’s continuing efforts to improve its OS on budget blowers.

The update is rolling out now to Android phones. iOS users who are desperate to get in on the Google action can content themselves with the fact that Mountain View has just added new functionality to its iOS Maps app, including restaurant, hotel and flight reservations.
