OnePlus 5 to be discontinued in wake of OnePlus 5T unveiling

OnePlus has confirmed its highly regarded OnePlus 5 smartphone will be discontinued once its current batch has sold out, as the mobile maker’s focus shifts to the new OnePlus 5T.

The OnePlus 5T was unveiled last week at a special event in New York. The device features a tweaked design, with rear fingerprint scanner, plus a dual lens camera and facial recognition security.

Not caught up with the OnePlus 5T yet? Here's everything you need to know.

OnePlus executive Vikas Aggarwal said: “As a brand we want to make sure there is one device which is the latest, and the previous devices are usually sold out once the new product launches.”

The move does not come as a major surprise. OnePlus killed off its 3T smartphone when it launched the OnePlus 5 earlier this year.

The OnePlus 5T is available from £449 SIM–free. Considering its top–end specs, it’s a very worthwhile alternative to pricier devices from Apple and Samsung.
