A soon-to-be-rare-as-hen’s-teeth red edition of the OnePlus 5T is now on sale in the UK, after debuting in China earlier this year. And rather fetching it is too.
The ‘Lava Red’ version of OnePlus’s current top-of-the-range smartphone is priced £499 to buy off-contract and SIM-free. Which is less than half the price of the 64GB edition of the iPhone X.

For that outlay, you get 128GB of storage, as well as a dual lens camera for depth-of-field bokeh shots that blur out the background while casting your subject in ultra sharp focus.
Like the OnePlus 5 before it, the 5T’s camera pairs 16-megapixel and 20-megapixel lenses. But this time around they’re equipped with a wide f/1.7 aperture and 2x optical zoom that makes for better performance in low light conditions.

To keep your details secure, the handset also features OnePlus’ own Face Unlock facial recognition technology that’s almost as good as Apple’s Face ID. But still makes room for a 6-inch Full Optic AMOLED screen that takes up almost the entire front of the phone and a fingerprint scanner on the rear.
As with all OnePlus smartphones, the phone-maker’s Dash Charge technology is on board. So you can expect to get a day’s power out of half an hour of charging.
Other features include a headphone jack, a 16-megapixel selfie camera and a heavily customised version of Android Nougat that offers you more scope for customisation and packs in a few extra functions.
Not least among these is Reading Mode that turns your phone into a de facto e-reader, as well as some cool off-screen gestures that let you open apps just by swiping your hand.
