A TV series prequel to the Game of Thrones is a very real possibility, the writer of the original books has revealed.
In an interview with IGN, George RR Martin disclosed that the Tales of Dunk series, which are set in same world as Game of Thrones, are on the slate at US network HBO.
The series, which is told in shorter novellas rather than the doorstop tomes that relate the goings-on in Westeros in Games of Thrones, concerns itself with the two characters called Dunk and Egg and is set 100 years earlier.
Martin said: "So we have been playing with the idea of doing those as prequels. They would be prequels, in a sense, they're a hundred years earlier but in the same world.
They're somewhat lighter in tone than the main series, a little more adventurous. But my fans love them and I love the two characters too, and it all ties into Westeros history."
The third season of Games of Thrones starts on Sky Atlantic in the UK on April 1st, with series one and two available to watch via Sky’s on-demand service from the same day.
