Virgin Media customers can now catch up with action from one of Europe’s top football competitions and the Tour de France in high definition, with the arrival of more ITV HD channels.

The arrival of ITV’s channels means that Virgin Media customers signed up to the company’s XL package can watch the UEFA Europa League and the likes of The Only Way is Essex and Whitechapel for no extra charge.

The broadcaster-cum-broadband-provider also announced that ITV’s suite of standard definition channels will now be available to watch on computers, tablets or smartphones via the Sky Go-alike Virgin TV Anywhere.

Katharine Burns, executive director of multiscreen content acquisition at Virgin Media said: “We’re pleased to be introducing such a fantastic selection of HD content to our customers as well as bringing some of the UK’s most watched channels to different screens via Virgin TV Anywhere.

“ITV makes some of the country’s most loved programmes and with such an abundance of contemporary and classic drama, reality TV favourites and sporting highlights, these latest channels are an important addition to our growing line-up.”

Earlier this month, Virgin Media confirmed it has secured the rights to show US channel the Style Network.
