godzilla anime

The first anime based on the Godzilla character is coming to Netflix. The anime feature film will land on the streaming service at some point after its cinema release on 26th March.

The film is set for a global Netflix release, so will come to all its many territories at the same time.

The project is the brainchild of producer Toho and Polygon Pictures. Polygon has previously worked on 'Knights of Sidonia', a sci-fi series that's also offered by Netflix in the west.

The Godzilla feature will be directed by Kobe Shizuno and Hiroyuki Seshita, whose previous work includes the aforementioned 'Knights of Sidonia', 'Detective Conan' and 'Blame!'. The script is written by Gen Urobuchi, who also wrote 'Psycho-Pass' and 'Madoka Magika'.

This is Godzilla's first anime incarnation, so expectations are high. Netflix has previously expressed an interest in boosting its anime content, possibly because arch rival Amazon recently launched its own dedicated anime streaming service to serve fans of the genre.
