Psychological thriller 'The Alienist' will air on Netflix on 19th April, the streaming service has announced.
Set in the underbelly of New York's "Gilded Age" (the late 19th century), the series stars Daniel Bruhl ('Inglourious Basterds', 'Rush') as a brilliant and obsessive "Alienist" in the controversial new field of treating mental pathologies. Only he holds the key to finding a ritualistic killer preying on young boys.
It's based on the award-winning novel by Caleb Carr, and also stars Luke Evans ('The Girl on the Train') and Dakota Fanning ('American Pastoral').
"The response to the show in the US has been incredible and now I can't wait for the rest of the world to watch it," Evans said in a statement.
Bruhl added: "To play one of the most compelling characters I've ever read on the page has been a huge honour. Caleb Carr devised a fascinating world of intrigue and complexity, and I look forward to international audiences seeing how our brilliant cast and creatives have brought his words to life."
Fanning said: "I am very proud of this show, and really excited that people will be able to watch it all at once."
All 10 episodes will be available at launch. It will air on Netflix in all territories except the US and France.
