Amazon Prime has more than 100 million subscribers worldwide. Prime subscribers automatically get Prime Video, Amazon's video streaming service.
It's a landmark number for Amazon, though it still lags behind Netflix, which has 125 million customers worldwide.
Amazon revealed the statistic in a letter to shareholders.
Analysts said it was significant as it showed how big Amazon is worldwide. Daniel Ives, from the research firm GBH Insights, described it as a "mind-boggling number." It "serves as a key barometer to how big Amazon's kingdom has become," he added.
Amazon's approach is slightly different to Netflix's. While Netflix focuses on original content, and only offers video streaming, the Amazon Prime package includes Prime Music and free one-delivery on thousands of items bought from Amazon. Critics say it's a jack of all trades, master of none. But with its increasing focus on original sci-fi content (like the upcoming 'Lord of the Rings' TV series), and these huge subscriber numbers, Amazon is certainly nipping at Netflix's heels.
