Netflix is backing another blockbuster. Having endured a critical flop in the Will Smith vehicle Bright (though it was apparently a commercial success), it's now enlisted the makers of Deadpool along with bombastic director Michael Bay.
Six Billionaires will star Ryan Reynolds, and will feature six billionaires who fake their own death and "form an elite team to take down bad guys". It's been penned by Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, the writing duo behind Deadpool and Zombieland.
Expect big things. Deadpool – whose sequel is now in cinemas – was a winning mix of crass humour and superhero theatrics. And Bay is no blushing violet. He's the man behind Bad Boys, The Rock, Armageddon and the Transformers franchise.
Production starts this summer. Look out for it on Netflix next year.
This sounds like Netflix's most ambitious feature film yet. While its TV shows have become must-see TV, its films have fared less well, being a series of misfires and studio castoffs. But with these big names behind it, Six Underground could be a hit.
