Samsung has lifted the lid on a new smartphone in its Galaxy range, which is set to offer the latest 2.1 edition of Google's Android operating system.

The Galaxy S is also noteworthy for its four inch touchscreen display that uses OLED technology and high-definition video recording capabilities.

Samsung has implemented its Layar interface over the top of Android, which has impressive features including integrated augmented reality capabilities.

A 1GHz processor makes the Galaxy S a smooth running piece of kit, while 16GB of storage is on offer for keeping HD video footage and masses of movies and music.

Social networkers will be able to use the Social Hub feature to connect their multiple online profiles in a single place.

Wireless N networking is accompanied by Bluetooth 3.0 and standard 3G and HSDPA will be on hand for mobile internet access.

The Galaxy S will weigh in at 118 grams, which is light considering the wealth of technology and the large screen size.

No date has been set for a launch, but Samsung has hinted that the handset will arrive in the UK soon.
