Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread hitting Samsung Galaxy Ace next week

Samsung Galaxy Ace owners on Three can look forward to a swishy OS update next week, the carrier has revealed, ironing out some pesky bugs and adding some rather welcome performance optimisations.

The network, which made Android 2.3.3 available for the budget blowers back in July, revealed its plans to push out an update to the 2.3.4 version of Google’s platform in response to a Twitter enquiry from Galaxy Ace-owner Paul Jancey.

So what does that mean for users? Well, for a start it ought to nix the slow lock screen bug that has been affecting some owners, as well as issues with the screen back light and random freezes.

Alas, because the Ace doesn’t pack a front-facing secondary snapper, the update won’t add the video chat via Google Talk functionality that 2.3.4 brings to higher-end handsets. However, there’s every chance it could bring voice chat via the app to Sammy’s kit.

In keeping with Three’s 2.3.3 update for the Ace, the forthcoming platform bump is likely to be available both from Samsung’s proprietary download solution, Kies, as well as over the air.

@T Stamp - No - just plug into kies.

@Sheel Kumar - the one you downloaded was a leaked rom.. Thats why it has bugs in it. Each carrier plays around with the firmware to ensure bugs are ironed out. kies wont like your phone as you have unoffical firmware! You'll have to look around the web to see who has a localised firmware you can flash. (say goodbye to your warranty though - which is already invalid) Try to be more patient with firmware next time!
