Samsung Galaxy S2 owners on Orange will be able to update their phones to the latest version of Android next month, the carrier has stated.

A spokesperson for Orange told CNET that the network is pushing out Android 4.0, A.K.A Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS), during April. Alas, they were no specific than that, so if you’re on Orange you could be waiting as little as seven days or six weeks for your scoops of ICS.

In keeping with the codename assigned by Google staffers, the upgrade brings some sweet new features to the S2, including an updated task manager, a significantly faster browser and the cosmetically impressive if not terribly secure Face Unlock feature.

Improved battery life is also on the way, as well as performance optimisations for a slicker and smoother smartphone experience all round.

However, Android Beam, which enables users to swap content by touching phones together, is not included due to the fact that Near Field Communications chips were omitted from UK S2 units.

Three became the first UK network to make Android 4.0 available to S2 users earlier this week.

O2 and T-Mobile, meanwhile, have both confirmed plans to bring the OS bump to their customers “soon”.
