Samsung has officially raised the curtain on the latest additions to its Galaxy range: the Galaxy S4 Active, the Galaxy S4 Zoom and the Galaxy NX Android camera.

Unveiled last night at London’s Earl’s Court, the Galaxy S4 Active is a ruggedised version of the flagship model that landed in May, featuring water and dust resistance capabilities thanks to an IP67 Ingress Protection rating, meaning it can survive being submerged in one metre of water for up to 30 minutes.

Like the standard S4, the S4 Active also packs a five-inch full HD display, a 1.9GHz Snapdragon 600 chipset and 4G LTE support for fast surfing and downloading on the move.

Although the camera gets downgraded from 13 megapixels to eight, the Active makes up for it somewhat with the addition of an ‘Aqua mode’ that turns the volume rocker into a dedicated shutter release for snapping under water.

Samsung confirmed that the Galaxy S4 Active will be available in three colourways: Urban Grey, Dive Blue and Orange Flare.

Next up is the Galaxy S4 Zoom, which is another variant of the Galaxy S4 that features a whopping 16-megapixel rear-mounted camera with a10x optical zoom – making it into a compact digital by any definition.

One of the USPs of this model is the ‘In-Call Photo Share’ mode, which as the name suggests, allows you to share your photos during phone calls. It also has a neat dial-like interface that you can navigate by rotating the zoom ring around the camera lens.

Also new on the S4 Zoom is feature called ‘Smart Mode Suggest’, which recommends you the best mode for a given situation when taking still photos. This model will be available in white frost and black mist - same as the Galaxy S4.

Also showcased at the event was the Samsung Galaxy NX, the world’s first Android-operated compact system camera with interchangeable lenses (with up to 13 to choose from, including fish eye and macro).

What’s cool is that this comes with 4G LTE support, so you can share your photos quickly and easily when you’re out and about. It’s also powered by a 1.6GHz quad-core CPU to ensure images are processed just as speedily.

Other features include Advanced Hybrid Auto Focus (AF), a top shutter speed of 1/6000 of a second and max ISO of 25,600 max ISO. It’s also preloaded with 30+ Smart Modes for various shooting situations including those available for the Galaxy S4 and the S4 Zoom.

We got up close and personal with all three devices at the event and despite their very niche appeals, we were were pleasantly surprised to see that each offered enough variety to differentiate from the standard Galaxy S4.

Samsung also revealed that the Galaxy S4 will soon be available in five new colourways in addition to the existing white frost and black mist versions.

Stay tuned as we bring you more news and announcements on the devices in the weeks to come.
