Tech fans on a budget will be able to pick up the Samsung Galaxy S5 at a substantial discount provided they can wait three months before shelling out, research reveals.

A study conducted by price comparison site Idealo found that the average price of the previous three generations of Galaxy S smartphones fell between 15% and 20% within three months of going on sale.

And with the rate of decline apparently accelerating with each new model, the site expects the price of the Galaxy S5 to fall even faster.

The result is that you could pick one Sammy's forthcoming flagship at a 24% discount if you’re prepared to play the waiting game.

The S5 is set to tip up on February 24th at Mobile World Congress. As well as debuting TouchID-style fingerprint scanning technology, it’s expected to feature a slightly larger screen and an improved 16-megapixel camera.

Perhaps most exciting for paid-up fans, though, is that the phone is also expected to ditch the S4's much lambasted plastic shell for a more premium metal build.

And rounding off the enhancements coming our way is a wholly redesigned user interface and all-new homescreen, which take cues from iOS 7’s ‘flatter’ look and HTC’s social-networking focussed Blinkfeed custom skin respectively.
