The ‘copper gold’ version of the Samsung Galaxy will be exclusive to Vodafone, as predicted by uSwitch Tech last month.
Vodafone today confirmed it has secured the sole rights to sell the Galaxy S5 in its shiniest colourway, and the one that’s expected to be most in-demand, in the UK when pre-orders start on March 28th.
It’s not yet clear if the, ahem, ‘golden handcuffs’ arrangement is a time-limited exclusive or whether the gold edition will only ever be available from Vodafone on these shores. We’ve approached Vodafone’s PR people to find out, though, so stay tuned for updates.
The Galaxy S5, which also comes in black, white and blue and was unveiled at Mobile World Congress last month, officially hits shop shelves on April 28th.
Carriers that have confirmed plans to carry the handset are EE, which is offering an unnamed incentive to early-bird pre-order customers, as well as O2, Virgin Media and Three. All of which are operating pre-registration schemes right now to enable would-be owners to sign up for price and availability updates.
Billed as a bid to go ‘back to basics’ to restore the slightly tarnished lustre of the Galaxy S range, Samsung’s latest flagship smartphone’s spec sheet highlights take in a Touch ID-style fingerprint scanner and a battery-boosting power saver mode.
The water and dust-resistant handset is also home to an improved 16-megapixel camera with 4K video recording, health-monitoring smarts, super-fast 4G support and a gym-buffed 2.5GHz quad core processor.
