The mobile broadband industry is set to see a huge amount of growth over the coming years, according to new research.
Recently-released figures from Ovum estimate that the 3G broadband sector will be worth $137 billion (£94 billion) by the year 2014.
Presented alongside this prediction was the forecast that there will be over two billion mobile broadband users by the same year.
Steven Hartley, senior analyst at Ovum and co-author of the report, commented: "This is a staggering 1022 per cent growth from 2008, which is when mobile broadband supposedly took-off.
"Operators can also expect a similar growth rate for handset users of mobile broadband services, but starting from a much larger existing base."
Of the two billion projected users in 2014, it is thought that 258 million will be enjoying mobile broadband from their laptop, rather than handset.
