3 Mobile has launched its INQ1 handset, which promises to bring social networking-enabled mobile phones to the masses.
The phone enables users to access Facebook, with users able to update their profiles while on the move and add photos they have taken with the onboard 3.2 megapixel camera.
According to 3 Mobile, the phone is the most advanced mobile to have been created with social networking specifically in mind.
Other functions include Skype calling services as well as online music service Last.fm and simple and easy access to Windows Live Messenger.
3 Mobile UK chief executive Kevin Russell said: “We believe that INQ1 is genuinely revolutionary in what it offers – the technology is in itself great, but it’s the way that these capabilities are integrated into the heart of the user experience that really makes the difference.
“With this phone you can keep track of your Facebook friends all day, every day as part of your ordinary phone usage.”
3 Mobile is offering the phone for free on £15 per month contracts. This entitles owners to unlimited Facebook, Last.fm and Windows as well as 75 minutes of calls to other networks and unlimited email, same-network calls and texts.
Demand for the INQ 1 is so strong that 50,000 people registered pre-orders.
