Carphone Warehouse is offering the UK’s cheapest pay as you go mobile phone for a credit-crunch defying £2.88.
The Motorola W180 is available for this rock bottom price when purchased with £10 of Orange credit.
Carphone’s offer is latest of its attention grabbing deals which capitalise on the new mood of consumer belt-tightening, having previously offered a Samsung handset for £5.
The Motorola W180 offers owners the advantage of being easy to use and houses an FM radio for entertainment on the move.
Carphone chief executive Andrew Harrison told the Sun: "Customers want the best value products in this difficult economic climate. There was an incredible response to the phone for under a fiver.
"We're delighted to bring them an even cheaper credit-crunch busting Christmas handset."
Under the terms of most pay as you go deals, consumers are usually forced to stump up for the full cost of the handset.
This is in contrast to 12-month contract deals where the handset is free.
