Nokia is seemingly readying a challenger to high-end cameraphones such as the Sony Ericsson Satio in the form of the forthcoming N87.
A clip that has surfaced online shows what appears to be an official Nokia document detailing a new handset dubbed the N87 with a 12 megapixel camera with dual LED and Xenon flash.
This puts the handset in direct competition with the Satio, which also houses a 12 megapixel snapper and is currently being heavily promoted in the UK with TV and print spots.
The N87 is also reportedly home to 3.2-inch WVGA (800 x 480 pixels), capacitive touchscreen display and a 600MHz processor.
In keeping with Nokia’s recent announcement that it will continue to support its existing operating system, the handset will run on Symbian rather than the Linux Maemo.
News of Nokia’s forthcoming handset release schedule comes after it recently revealed that it plans to cut the number of models it releases in years to come in favour of focusing on a smaller number of luxury, flagship smartphones.
