What are claimed to be the first-ever photos of the next iPad have surfaced online, as Apple looks to follow up the iPad mini with a refreshed version of its standard-sized slate.
Sourced by 9to5Mac, photos purportedly show the fifth-gen device's backplate alongside the same part from the current model and appear to indicate that this time around Apple’s tablet will feature a slightly thinner back and a matte black finish.
The images dovetail with earlier leaks from iLounge from week. Citing insider sources, the site claimed that the iPad 5 will be smaller and thinner than earlier models and could dispense with a bezel entirely.
It’s also expected to feature a new more robust form of Gorilla Glass, alongside displays that cut power consumption by as much as 90 per cent.
Release details for the slate are entirely up in the air right now. But rumours suggest it could be along as early as March, possibly alongside a second take on the iPad mini, from which the iPad 5 is expected to take at least some of its design cues.
