In previous years, Samsung has made a Galaxy Active iteration of its latest S series handset – it's a more rugged, outdoorsy version of the phone with shock protection and waterproof abilities. Because the highly rated S7 and S7 Edge are waterproof, doubts were cast that we would see a Galaxy S7 Active. But it now looks like we will.
The S7 Active has been spotted in the 'changelog' of the latest version of the Samsung Level app. A changelog is a list of all the improvements or additions in a new version of software.
Seeing as the S7 and S7 Edge are waterproof and dustproof, what could the S7 Active offer above and beyond?
The handset's codename is rumoured to be Poseidon, which hints it could be waterproof to a greater depth than the S7 and S7 Edge.
It could also offer more storage, and increased protection against shocks and falls.
The S6 Active also had better battery life, so expect the S7 Active to last longer than its non-rugged siblings.
The handset isn't official yet. There's a chance Samsung was planning on launching an Active variant, but then decided to boost the rugged credentials of the S7 and S7 Edge, so will ditch it after all. We'll have to wait and see.
Judging by previous years, expect an announcement at the start of the summer.
