Uswitch comments on AXA’s plans for increased transparency around renewals

Commenting on the news that the AXA has become the first major insurer to tell customers what they paid last year in their renewal letters, Rod Jones, insurance expert at Uswitch.com, says: “By the time you receive your renewal price, it’s unlikely that you remember what you paid last year, making it difficult to tell if you’re getting a good deal. Any move to give customers greater transparency and control over their premiums is very welcome and much needed.

“It’s rare that loyalty pays – this information will spell out clearly and simply whether it does or not. Seeing in black and white that you’re paying more may help stamp out consumer apathy and encourage more people to save money by changing providers. If a premium has gone up unexpectedly, or by a considerable amount, drivers should use these letters as a wake-up call. When armed with all the information available to them, people can see clearly whether they can save money by shopping around for a better price.

“Although AXA is one of the UK’s largest insurers, this is just a drop in the ocean – we want to see the other providers follow its lead and ensure all drivers get more transparency around their renewal price.”
