Nokia has scooped the award for mobile internet service of the year for Sports Tracker at the world’s leading mobile phone expo.
The Finnish giant beat out stiff competition to pick up the gong at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona.
Sports Tracker is a service that enables users to monitor their track exercise and their fitness levels.
It can be accessed both on a mobile phone and on a computer and has proved such a success that it has been downloaded 2.5 million times so far.
Elsewhere, KT Freetel was awarded Best Broadcast Commercial with Show Is, while the mobile version of the BBC iPlayer picked up Best Mobile Music or Video.
A successful night for Nokia was capped off when the company given the gong for Outstanding Environmental Contribution.
The award followed a slew of moves to make Nokia phones more environmentally friendly, including the introduction of more recyclable materials in their manufacture and employing chargers that use less power.
