Owners of the T-Mobile G1 handset will be able to access a range of innovative new functions, with the arrival of an update for the phone’s Android operating system.
Among the additions included in the Android 1.5 update are an onscreen keyboard and the facility to record and play video.
Users will also benefit from the addition of a Gmail account and will be able to more easily upload videos to YouTube. They need to take no action to access the update, which should be installed automatically
Last month T-Mobile announced that it had sold one million G1 handsets since the phone launched late last year. Of these around 100,000 were UK sales.
The carrier is set to follow up the phone with the T-Mobile Bigfoot, which will differ from its predecessor by incorporating a “radical looking design” and a slide-out Qwerty keyboard.
The G1 was the first Android-powered phone to hit the UK, but has since been followed by the HTC Magic.
