Nokia Messaging now boasts even more compatibility with social networking thanks to a second beta version of the software becoming available.

The first beta added the ability to post Facebook status updates directly from a Nokia smartphone's home screen, as well as providing a live news feed from the world's most popular social networking site.

The latest release adds in the essential Twitter functionality that many other smartphone platforms already offer.

Users will be able to tweet from their home screens, as well as being able to retweet or reply and follow any links included in a tweet from someone they are following.

Facebook friends are now integrated into the phone functionality of any Nokia mobile as the software now allows voice calls to be made to companions from within the application, which should save time.

Further Facebook improvements include the ability to merge the phone's calendar with your Facebook calendar so that you have all of your friend's birthdays contained on your phone.

On the flip side it will be a lot harder to claim that you simply forgot about a special occasion when you have all the information you need in your pocket at all times.

In order to download the latest version of Nokia Messaging for Social Networking you will need to head to Nokia Beta Labs. It is compatible with the N97 and the N97 Mini as well as the 5800 XpressMusic.
