Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer HTC has confirmed it is buying French software firm Abaxia, as it looks to expand on its success in the smartphone space this year.
Abaxia has been working with mobile network providers and hardware manufacturers to create customised software and to generate revenue using smartphones.
HTC already has a positive track record in the smartphone software market, as its Sense user interface which it installs on top of standard operating systems such as Android has won critical acclaim.
Peter Chou, Chief Executive of HTC, said: "The addition of Abaxia deepens and broadens our software development capabilities so that we can innovate at an even faster pace."
Just how HTC and Abaxia's relationship will blossom is not known, although strengthening its software capabilities is a sensible move for a smartphone manufacturer that is looking to take on the likes of Apple.
