Dell’s first foray into the world of Windows Phone 7, AKA the Venue Pro, is expected to land in Blighty in just three days time, according to online retailer Expansys.
The outlet is offering an unlocked version of Venue Pro for a not-so-modest outlay of £439.99 with an estimated shipping date of the 2nd of February. Surprisingly enough, there’s no sign of contract options yet for those looking to spread their costs.
The Venue Pro was announced late last year around the time of the launch of Microsoft’s reboot of Windows Phone 7, which has had moderate success with two million shipments to date. While not enough to put a dent on the fast-growing giant that is
Android, it hasn’t quite fallen flat on its face, as some critics had expected.
Features of the Venue Pro include a capacious 4.1-inch AMOLED gorilla glass panel to rival that of the iPhone 4. As per Microsoft’s strict guidelines, it also packs a 1GHz processor to keep apps ticking over smoothly, and a five-megapixel cam with autofocus, LED flash and geo tagging to boot.
There’s also 8MB of flash memory onboard. Unfortunately, that can’t be expanded further due to the lack of any external memory whatsoever. On the plus side, Dell has managed to squeeze in a full (vertical) slide-out QWERTY keyboard, which should keep the business types happy.
Although Dell has been quite vocal of its support for Windows Phone 7, it also plans to launch an Android version of the Venue Pro. Whether or not it will sport the same name is as yet unknown.
