Teenager swaps kidney for iPad 2

A Chinese youth has sold off his kidney to fun the purchase of an iPad 2, it has emerged, upping the stakes for the lengths fanboys will go to get their hands on Apple kit.

According to the Shanghai Daily, 17-year-old Zheng offloaded his spare organ in return for a little over £2400. He then used the cash to get himself an Apple slate and an unspecified laptop.

He said: "I wanted to buy an iPad 2 but could not afford it. A broker contacted me on the Internet and said he could help me sell one kidney for 20,000 yuan."

The deal was reportedly set up over the internet through a go-between-cum-broker, who arranged for an operation to remove the kidney at a hospital in Chenzou City.

Alas, since the surgery Zheng claims to have experienced health problems – no doubt related to the fact that private contractors who carried out the operation were unqualified to do so. Let’s hope he gets better soon, eh?
