LG is prepping a more svelte, altogether-sexier sequel to the Optimus 3D, a mover and shaker at the phone-maker has disclosed.
Dr Henry Noh, who was heavily involved in developing LG’s debut 3D-capable kit, told Pocket-Lint that a slimmer handset with the same media and gaming smarts is scheduled for release some time next year.
He said: "Everyone knows that this [LG Optimus 3D] is not the slimmest and sexiest phone on the street. We want to make it a little slimmer.”
Noh went on to berate the homogeneity of current-gen handset design and the slew of me-too kits currently doing the rounds.
"These days, all the phones look the same. They have a huge screen - 4.3-inches is normal these days - and next year they’re moving even larger.
“And they have a fixed number of touch buttons. They’re the same thickness. They have the same camera. And even the same OS. It’s so boring."
Scathing no? Hmm. Well, a cynic might point out that LG hasn’t exactly been bucking the trend when it comes to radical phone design – especially with other models in the Optimus range. However, as the first company to bring 3D to smartphones in the UK, we’re going to cut LG some slack. And if that next-gen 3D phone really is as sexy as they say, so much the better.
