Facebook has finally launched its official app for the iPad, bringing social networking smarts specially optimised for Apple’s slates after over a year of agonising waiting.
The app was previously leaked in July when it was unearthed within the iPhone version of Facebook app. At long last it’s downloadable on the App Store.
"Many of you have been asking about Facebook for iPad," said Facebook engineer Leon Dubinsky.
"Today, it's finally here. With the iPad app, you get the full Facebook experience, right at your fingertips. It's a fun, colorful way to keep up with friends, share photos, chat and more."
Standout features on board include a new navigation interface that’s been designed with the iPad’s larger screen real estate in mind. A left-side menu can be revealed at the tap of a button or a simple flick of the screen for access to all the important areas of the app. Messages, friend invites and notifications can be easily viewed by touching the icon at the top, much like the desktop button. Meanwhile, the built-in chat system is tucked neatly on the right-hand side.
Elsehwere, the photo gallery displays snaps in high-res and allows you to flip through them ‘like a real photo album. You can also play games solo or with friends and enjoy pretty much all the features already available on the iPhone version of the app.
Facebook for iPad is free to download right now on iTunes.
