Angry Birds will be leaving the earth’s orbit for an all-new spin-off series in just two weeks’ time.
Finnish developer Rovio Entertainment has officially announced that Angry Birds Space will be released on March 22nd, sending the titular birds into the final frontier in a seemingly endless struggle to recover their stolen eggs from the evil green pigs.
The franchise has already surpassed 700 million downloads across all platforms. This newest instalment, featuring 60 inter-planetary levels, is set to launch that figure beyond the astronomical billion-mark.
“We focused on every detail in development of Angry Birds Space to build a special experience for our fans,” said Peter Vesterbacka of Rovio.
“I believe we have succeeded well with the game, and we wanted to create something as unique around our launch events. NASA has been the perfect partner for our Angry Birds Space programme, and we can’t wait to work with them on creating more compelling educational experiences.”
The space setting is sure to introduce new gameplay elements. Variable gravity will be one of the highlights, presenting a fresh challenge for players to adjust to if they're to complete the physics-based puzzles.
Angry Birds Space will be released simultaneously on both iOS and Android on March 22nd. Pricing has not been confirmed yet but expect this to be broadly in line with previous iterations.
