The next-generation Apple tablet will be dubbed the iPad HD and not iPad 3, as speculation had suggested.
Over the last few days, sources cited by Gizmodo, CNET and VentureBeat have all testified that the tech giant will opt for ‘HD’ tag. These were based in part on catalogue listings for accessories for the soon-to-be-unveiled slate.
And today, it was once again mentioned by an insider with familiarity of what goes on down at the House of Cupertino, who told Mashable to expect to see a device called the iPad HD at this week’s showcase.
Perhaps tellingly, the mooted nomenclature suggests very strongly that – high density retina display aside - the third-generation could well be an iPhone4S-style incremental upgrade rather than a huge overhaul.
After months of rumours about quad-core processors and even 3D smarts, we really, really hope not, though.
