HTC is set to unveil an all–new phablet at a special event on January 12th, it appears. Dubbed the U Ultra, rumours suggest it will be the Taiwanese mobile-maker’s latest flagship device.
Until recently, gossip on technology sites suggested the new handset would be dubbed the HTC Ocean Note.
However, a tip from renowned smartphone leaks specialist @OnLeaks, known for getting information spot on, says this is not the case. Instead, he claims the phone is called the Ultra U.
According to an unverified source, it will feature a six–inch display and a dual camera. More controversially, it's apparently also set to dispense with a traditional 3.5mm headphone slot.
The move comes after Apple ditched the traditional 3.5mm headphone jack for last year's iPhone, with Samsung said to be doing the same with the upcoming Galaxy S8.
Additionally, the HTC Ultra U will come with USB–C technology for fast charging and rapid data transfers and will have a dual SIM tray, so you swap between cards quickly. It’s set to be available in black, white or blue.
There’s no word yet on when the handset will be released here in the UK, or what its price tag will be. But in light of its large dimensions and high–end features, we don't expect it'll be cheap.
