Popular UK actress Samantha Bond - whose credits include Outnumbered and Downton Abbey - stars in the latest instalment of BT's popular TV advertising campaign.

Over the last year, viewers have watched the events unfold in Flat 6, as the BT housemates have found new ways of using their Infinity super-fast broadband connection.

In the advert premiering today (January 2nd), the former Miss Moneypenny plays Simon's mum, who visits the flat having returned from holiday.

Attempting to avoid a grilling over his personal life, the lead character aims to distract his mother with his new YouView box.

Simon - played by the BAFTA-winning Daniel Rigby - shows her how YouView offers a wide range of channels, plus on-demand content and seven-day catch-up services.

However, the plan backfires when his mum - already outstaying her welcome - settles in to catch up on the soap operas she missed while away.

David James, Marketing Director for Consumer at BT Retail, said it was "great" to have Samantha Bond join the cast of the BT flatmates in the new YouView ad.

"The characters in the adverts have gathered a real following with people wanting to know what happens next," he stated.

"They really allow us to demonstrate how our products and services enhance daily life."

BT is just one of the broadband providers to offer YouView-based IPTV services, which see content delivered to a television set via an internet connection.

TalkTalk has also launched its own YouView service, with the firm's engineers activating around a thousand boxes each day.
