Vodafone: iPhones not on sale until after Christmas

Vodafone will not be selling Apple iPhones before Christmas, despite reports to the contrary.

Following months of speculation, Vodafone finally confirmed it had won the rights to sell the iPhone 3G S and iPhone 3G this morning.

The news saw the company become the third UK operator to sell iPhones, along with O2 and Orange, with latter having yesterday agreed a deal that ended O2’s two-year exclusive arrangement with Apple.

The advent of increased competition for iPhone buyers has fuelled hopes of a price war that would see the handset come down in price by as much as £100.

However, a statement from Orange has revealed that it will not begin offering Apple mobile phones until after Christmas, thus reducing the likelihood of price points falling as much as might otherwise have been expected over the seasonal period.

The statement read: "Vodafone and Apple today confirmed that they have reached agreement to bring iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS to the UK and Ireland in early 2010."
