The iArmy’s calls for an Apple phablet could finally be answered this year, after photos leaked showing what looks very much like an iPhone with a more expansive screen.
Sourced by mysterious Twitter user @Mornray886 and perennial thorn in Apple's side Sonny Dickson, the snaps depict a handset with a much smaller bezel than any previous iPhone.
The bezel, for those of you not fully au fait with industry lingo, is the frame that surrounds a smartphone's screen.
In shrinking this part of the handset to a bare minimum, it appears Apple has been able to fit the iPhone with a display that’s almost edge-to-edge.
This means we should have a larger screen this time around, neatly tallying with rumours that the iPhone 6 could come in 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch variants.
A smaller bezel also means a larger screen can be incorporated without making the device itself any bigger.
Elsewhere, apart from an overall look that's closer to the iPad mini, it’s hard to see much that’s terribly different design-wise from the iPhone 5S.
Once again, very much present and correct is the Touch ID-equipped physical home button and gold and silver colourways.
Granted, the front-facing camera appears to have shifted ever so slightly from just above the speaker and now sits just to the right.
But reinforcing the ‘as-you-were’ feel is the fact that the dock, rear-mounted snapper and SIM tray are all exactly where they are in the iPhone 5S.
