Apple has swooped for the services of Nokia’s senior Lumia camera experts, just weeks after the Finnish company’s takeover by Microsoft.

Ari Partinen, who helped Nokia build its critically lauded PureView camera, confirmed on Twitter that he’s off to work in Cupertino.

The move suggests Apple is looking to make major changes to its camera product. While the snapper on the iPhone is decent, it’s widely recognised that Nokia’s camera efforts, such as the 41-megapixel number on the critically lauded Lumia 1020, have led the industry for some time.

Taking to Twitter, Partinen wrote: “Today will be my last day working for the amazing #Lumia family. In June I will start a new chapter in Cupertino, California.”

Partinen’s arrival at Apple is unlikely to affect the forthcoming iPhone 6 devices. However, it does point to a future when Apple’s cameras will be able to focus on areas of an image after they’ve been taken, as well as likely boosts in megapixel count and autofocus.
