Apple is planning to unveil Dr Dre and Jimmy Iovine as its latest hires at next month’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in San Francisco.
The Beats Audio execs are both due to take on senior roles at the company, with Apple said to be close to completing a $3.2 billion deal to acquire the headphone-maker and audio-streaming firm.
Word is that Apple is going to keep running Beats as a separate brand, giving the Cupertino tech giant the chance to test out Dre's music streaming service on a wider audience without using the Apple name. That could mean the streaming platform may not be integrated immediately into iOS.
Iovine is expected to look after the music side of Apple’s business, thrashing out deals with labels and other industry bodies.
Apple is thought to be looking to stem the growing tide of streaming services, which appear to be eating into the popularity of its iTunes platform.
