*The "average" speed displayed in Mb represents the speed available to 50% of customers with this product during peak time (between 8pm and 10pm). The actual speed you will get depends on your cabling, your area and (with non-fibre optic products) time of day and how far you are from the telephone exchange. Most providers will tell you the likely speed you will receive when you begin your online sign up — this may differ from the average speed displayed on our table.

Contract discount compares the promotional price currently offered across all services (broadband, line rental, TV, etc.) against the monthly cost of the same package without promotions, multiplied by the duration of the contract.

The deals available at your postcode are subject to local availability. The provider will confirm availability for your line.

We aim to take the strain out of broadband comparison. Good broadband deals aren't just about the price, it's also about what's included in the product, the speeds offered and any extra incentives providers are offering. To balance all of these, we have developed a ranking formula that takes into account deals that are proving to be popular with our customers, that are competitive in the market and have a smooth buying process.

If you prefer, you can sort deals by monthly cost, speed or contract length. You can also choose to show costs as monthly or full contract, which lets you see the total spend over the contract period, including any setup costs.

uSwitch services are provided at no cost to you, but we may receive a commission from the companies we refer you to.

Broadband deals explained

Fed up with being in the broadband slow lane? The good news is that there's no longer any need to be. Faster broadband packages that can transform your internet experience are now available all over the UK.

If you're fed up with slow speeds and want to get the best out of the internet, sign up for a faster broadband deal today.

Which providers offer faster broadband?

The UK's fastest broadband provider is Hyperoptic, who offers average broadband speeds as fast as 900Mbps.

Unfortunately Hyperoptic and other pure fibre broadband packages are only available in certain areas, typically in urban locations.

However, just because you're not in one of the areas served by pure-fibre service doesn't mean you can't necessarily get a faster broadband connection than you've already got.

Using a combination of fibre-to-the-cabinet and ADSL technology, BT offers cheaper Superfast fibre products with top average speeds of 66Mbps and 50Mbps. Other carriers, such as TalkTalk and Plusnet, also piggyback on BT's network to offer comparable speeds with fibre-ADSL services of their own.

Compare BT Infinity broadband packages.

But that still doesn't rule out you getting a faster broadband service. This is because broadband suppliers have been maximising standard ADSL networks — which are in place all over the country — so that they can deliver a better and faster connection.

As a result, you can now get an ADSL broadband product offering average speeds around 10Mbps from the likes of BT, Sky and TalkTalk.

Will I get the faster broadband speed I was promised?

If you choose a fibre-optic broadband package from Virgin Media, you are guaranteed to get the speed advertised. This is the great advantage of fibre-optic broadband technology.

Opt for an ADSL broadband product, however, and you can sometimes find you get a broadband speed that's below the maximum connection speed that is claimed by the provider.

This is because when broadband is delivered over older ADSL technology, the speed of a connection is affected by how far you live from the telephone exchange and the quality of the wires.

Why do I need faster broadband?

Faster broadband can transform your internet experience beyond recognition. With a faster broadband bundle, you can download music and movies in a fraction of the time that you're likely to be used to.

This brings an end to the days of having to wait hours to see the movie you want and means you've got much more flexibility to see what you want, when you want.

Faster broadband is also great if you're a fan of online gaming. With a faster broadband package, you can expect a much smoother, slicker and altogether more enjoyable gaming experience.
