*The "average" speed displayed in Mb represents the speed available to 50% of customers with this product during peak time (between 8pm and 10pm). The actual speed you will get depends on your cabling, your area and (with non-fibre optic products) time of day and how far you are from the telephone exchange. Most providers will tell you the likely speed you will receive when you begin your online sign up — this may differ from the average speed displayed on our table.

Contract discount compares the promotional price currently offered across all services (broadband, line rental, TV, etc.) against the monthly cost of the same package without promotions, multiplied by the duration of the contract.

The deals available at your postcode are subject to local availability. The provider will confirm availability for your line.

We aim to take the strain out of broadband comparison. Good broadband deals aren't just about the price, it's also about what's included in the product, the speeds offered and any extra incentives providers are offering. To balance all of these, we have developed a ranking formula that takes into account deals that are proving to be popular with our customers, that are competitive in the market and have a smooth buying process.

If you prefer, you can sort deals by monthly cost, speed or contract length. You can also choose to show costs as monthly or full contract, which lets you see the total spend over the contract period, including any setup costs.

uSwitch services are provided at no cost to you, but we may receive a commission from the companies we refer you to.

Broadband deals explained

HD broadband refers to broadband TV packages that allow users to enjoy TV shows, movies and premier sports events in rich high definition, adding an exciting new dimension to in-home entertainment.

Because HD content is bandwidth-hungry, HD broadband packages usually provide customers with a super-fast connection which is capable of handling large amounts of data.

Which providers offer HD broadband?

HD broadband is available from:

Virgin Media HD broadband

Virgin Media’s HD broadband service also includes Sky’s premium sports channels as well as a library of films, TV and live music to watch on demand. The broadband provider’s fibre-optic broadband network can deliver average broadband speeds up to 362Mbps, which means that customers can download movies and TV shows on-demand in seconds.

Virgin Media offers a range of HD boxes to suit all pockets, including the V6 and TiVo boxes.

BT HD broadband

BT's TV service features a constantly updated list of new releases for customers to download and enjoy in high definition via the Smart Hub or YouView HD set-top boxes. The service also boasts fantastic picture quality and surround sound to enhance your viewing experience.

The UK’s largest broadband provider’s HD broadband package includes a brilliant library of documentaries and movies which are charged on a pay-per-view basis.

TalkTalk HD broadband

TalkTalk offers HD programming via the amazing YouView box. Like other set-top boxes, it also lets you record, pause and rewind live TV and offers access to a trove of on-demand content.

Can I get HD broadband?

Before you even consider a broadband HD package, you'll need to make sure you've got an HD-ready television with an HDMI socket.

BT, TalkTalk and EE’s HD broadband services are available all over the UK — or, rather, anywhere that you can get a standard ADSL broadband connection. However, in order to get Virgin Media’s HD broadband service, it's necessary to live in an area covered by the company’s fibre-optic network.

The future of HD broadband?

HD is regarded by experts as the future of home entertainment, with more and more broadcasters rushing to join the HD revolution.

As technology improves we’re going to enjoy ever-greater picture quality with our HD broadband packages. Japanese scientists have already developed Ultra High Definition TV, which features pictures with 16 times the resolution of current HDTV. Meanwhile, forthcoming 3D HD TV looks set to bring theme park-style fun into your front room.
