Carbon-conscious broadband consumers now have another internet service option, allowing them to reduce their impact on the environment.

Internet service provider (ISP) ECOminutes has teamed up with Opal, a company owned by TalkTalk, to offer green, super-fast broadband deals.

Home phone and broadband packages are available from £10 per month, offering up to 24Mb downloads and monthly usage allowances of 100GB.

"Unlike other phone and broadband products, ECOminutes offers some added eco bonuses," the ISP stated.

"Customers receive a free energy efficient wireless broadband router which uses just eight watts of electricity, helping customers to keep energy usage down, especially as most people leave routers on 24/7."

ECOminutes said that the router helps lower household electricity bills without compromising performance.

The ISP has also pledged to offset the equivalent of up to a tonne of carbon for each customer that signs up, having calculated the carbon footprint of the ECOminutes phone and broadband service.
